Plumbing in Inglewood: what to know
Inglewood became a city on February 14, 1908. SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, Intuit Dome and Hollywood Park bring visitors in from all over, and the city sits under the approach path to LAX, so jets descending toward the runways are part of the everyday sky. Residential streets run through Morningside Park, Fairview Heights and Century Heights, and the city borders Los Angeles and Hawthorne.
Inglewood has about 40,100 housing units by the count of the US Census (ACS 2024 5-year). Half of them date from 1960 or earlier, 78 percent were built before 1980, and 38 percent are detached single-family houses, with apartments making up a large share of the rest. Many of the houses date from the 1920s to the 1950s and were plumbed for their time: galvanized steel carrying the water in, cast iron and clay carrying the waste out to the street.
Galvanized lines close up with rust over the decades, and the pressure drops at one tap after another until a fitting finally gives way behind a wall. Cast iron drains scale, crack and leak under the house. Clay laterals give way at the joints to roots and ground movement, and a lateral that has settled can hold sewage until it backs up through a tub or a floor drain. In the apartment buildings, shared drain lines mean one tenant's clog can become a neighbor's flood, so the stoppage is located before anyone's floor is opened.
Most Inglewood addresses get water from the city's own water utility; a few areas are served by an investor-owned water company instead, and the bill names which one you have. SoCalGas supplies the gas. Upkeep of the private sewer lateral falls to the owner, up to the point where it joins the public main. Plumbing permits come from the City of Inglewood, and each one we pull for a water heater, repipe, lateral or gas line is closed after inspection. From Morningside Park to Century Heights, calls get our 24-hour emergency response, dispatched from Los Angeles.
Inglewood borders Los Angeles and Hawthorne. We serve those cities as well, and their calls are handled from our Los Angeles location like every other. A person answers at any hour, the plumber finds where a leak or blockage begins before cutting into a wall or a floor, and work starts only after you sign the written estimate.
